Gti robbed - Key problem
« on: 02 March 2005, 14:55 »
Left my house on monday morning to find my golf had vanished. It had been stolen in the night. Nightmare. Anyway we have now been reunited as it was found dumped a few miles away. Luckily it was running on fumes, no petrol on board.
However they have totally screwed up both door locks and the ignition barrel, switch and housing is smashed up bad. The reason i post is because i wondered if it was possible to get ignition barrel and door locks that all use one key. Euro car parts tell me its not but i thought it was worth asking within forum. The car has central locking so not that bothered about passanger door but would be nice to have one key that fits both the door lock and ignition.

Any info would be great. Thanx

P.S Apparently the theives broke into house near where my car was dumped and took keys to steel brand new Audi RS8.

A few members are breaking mk2's on the for sale section. see if they have a full set of keys and locks to match?

Top idea mate. If not I could go to the scrappy. I dont know if you can get igntion barrel out without knackering it though.

i think you'll have to make do with having two keys. pretty sure they were never made to fit each other. unless you find some crafty locksmith to tweak the ignition barrel somehow?

Ahhh bastad thieves  me so cross. Went down to euro car parts after work, bought new ignition lock barrel, ignition switch, steering lock and new sheer bolts. I thought i would sort igition out and worry about matching keys later. So gets home at 6 oclock ish, took steering wheel off and strip down steering column. Sound took ten minutes. Just spent three hours trying to get knackered steering lock of inner shaft, It wont wont and will not come off.

Any ideas any body. please.

Gonna leave it now untill tomorrow pm as lost my calmer now.
