Got my bonnet lifters on finally! Went back to the scrappy as there was a mk3 GL there and I needed the retaining clips, but another car plonked on top so couldnt get the boot open. Decided another car should be ok, so went over to a Pug piece of crap that the rear screen also lifted up as well. Proceeded to take the lifters off of the screen, as the boot was up and it was easy access. Got the second lifter off the screen end, and the glass went flying forward and shattered!  :sick: Dropped the clips at the same time too! Bloke was pretty pissed off and I had to pay for the fecking screen.  :rolleyes: Ended up getting the proper boot lifter clips in the end, but what with the screen it ended up being the most expensive metal clips in history! :angry: Oh well, all done now, will get some phots at another time as its not a very exciting mod.  :grin: Just ordered some GolfGTI.co.uk stickers so will get them on as soon as they come too.  :smiley:

Oh and had a jerk at 3k rpm yesterday a couple of times. When I first got the car I bought a used MAF as mine was playin up, but before the new/used one arrived I stuck some contact cleaner and a cotton bud around it and it was fine. Replaced it today and its much much better now. When I first got it back on the road it felt really quick :grin: bearing in mind I had been driving a 1200cc corsa for the last 10 weeks, but the last week or so it just didnt seem to be picking up very well, even with the lightened flywheel. All good now and ponies are back after bolting!.  :smiley:

Finally got to the bottom of my leak that has caused a puddle in my rear passenger footwell over the last 2 days. The sunroof drain bung was missing in the passenger door jam. Thought it was just seeping down it and in through the door loom. Sunroof had a big glob of sealant from that side so thought it could also be coming through the fire guard from the bay. Turned out the drain bung was not missing. It had been pushed in, and the sealant at the sunroof hadn't actually made a seal. Water was just running down and into the front footwell.  :sick: absolute barsteward to get my sausage fingers in through the glove box recess and past the heater matrix, and down enough to push the tube near the hole for it. After lots of cuts, and hand getting stuck at wierd and painful angles, And alot of swearing, managed to get it near enough to stick some snub nosed pliers in the hole and pull it out. All sorted now so that's one less thing to worry about.  :smiley:

Branded!

Couldnt get the third one on as it didnt come off the backing properly, and the letters ended up all over my hands!

Not much else done recently. Little uns b'day next month, and missus the month after, then Tax end of Oct, and MOT mid Nov, so not much funds to get sorted. Need a few things for the MOT though, ABS sensor is back intermittently, and I had a go at the handbrake today. Where the handbrake lever is attached to a sort of plate, thats spot welded in the four corners to the tunnel. Well the front 2 spots have broke and the plate now flexes when the handbrake is applied. Tried keep it down by putting a plate on top, and bolted down between the gear stick trim, and the bolt for the handbrake, but managed to round the front handbrake thread off. Tried re-threading it, which worked for all of 3 pulls to check it out, before the whole thread snapped off at the base.  :angry: So more welding required pretty sharpish, as the sills need doing for the MOT anyway. Could get away with drilling through and bolting it all together, but that would be a bit of a bodge, and since it needs the sills done anyway, I may as well get it done properly.  :rolleyes: Possibly rear disks and pads, but fingers crossed, thats all work required for another years ticket. Back to work next week and will get mesen down to the workshops and have a gander at the welders at work. Mate has an old MIG in his garage that he's not used in years, and said I can borrow that, so worth a go I reckon!  :undecided: :evil:

Well just got to Bristol so that the first reasonably long journey out of the way. Only problem is I think that stat has died as water didn't go above 70 when cruising and oil temp stayed around 82. That was with a stop off in Exeter for the Swdubs meet and a fair amount of traffic. Got a good run out though but kept at a relatively comfortable speed. One thing I can say though after attending my first meet, is that although probably not to f17 bad standard, my bay is far better than most.  :smiley:. Just need to sort out the bodywork now. :rolleyes:

Cheers dude!  :wink:

Just got back from Bristol so almost a 300 mile round trip, and opened her up on the way home (all the way up to 70 obviously!)  :grin:
and I'm please to say she performed emphatically. I now have confidence back in the old girl, so will give her a bit of a treat in the way of a PROPER good clean, polish and valet this weekend. (not done it properly in about 3 months!). The only thing that has gone wrong is that literally 2 minutes from home, the top of the grille snapped off!  :rolleyes: The top clips were already snapped, and a couple of the slats were broken, and my plastic welding skills a couple of weeks ago obviously left alot to be desired. The plan was for a standard grille soonish anyway, so gives me an excuse to get it asap now.  :smiley:

Small update, Not posted in a month and apart from the handbrake mount bolt sheering off, all has been well.
Payday today, so the beginnings of prep work for MOT which is due mid November. Also some cosmetic work to get it looking a bit better. First thing I picked up was this;

The top half of my badgeless grille snapped off about a month ago, so I've been slacking a bit with getting a new one.
Needs a bit of a tidy up as the badge has started to discolour but that can be done in time when I decide which route I wanna take with it.

Also got 2 new front tyres as the old were past the limit.  :lipsrsealed:

A couple of spandangle Proxes T1Rs courtesy of Black Circle and fitted by ProTyre, who themselves would have charged over £40 more for the pair.  :smug:

Just need to sort a bit of welding now, and as I have just acquired the use of a fully kitted out garage with ramps and air tools to make use of, for the princely sum of £18 per year, with free labour (bung em a few quid to do the job type thing) in the dockyard, its safe to say I'm well on my way, and well chuffed.  :smiley: Need to source rear discs and pads still, and possibly an outer CV boot but hopefully thats it for Mot work.

Sorting the rust under the rear quarter window tomorrow, as the it may be the only break in the weather for a while now too. Happy days!!!!  :smiley:
