Cheers bud, awsome thread you have going as well, I love the old roccos and yours looks a really good example with lots done already.

Rightyho, sent my flywheel off to be lightened by hotgolf on cgti on friday, so once thats back (end of the week hopefully) engine will be going back in.

finished up the bay

And the lump is all back together after painting up, new cam and sump gaskets, (black sump now on but not in the photos), new cambelt and tensioner, and a few new seals, nuts and bolts etc........... Hose springs look a bit naff cos I painted them red, but I will change them when I can be arsed getting some new ones. Wanted something red in the bay to tie in with the calipers and pinstrip on the body, but I think I'm gonna get a strut brace and paint that now.

gearbox also done and sat in the shed

Had to get a new crank sensor today as well, as both from old and new engine were completely fooked!
Got all oil and coolant ready to go in now as well, and ordered some paint from vw ready for the rust under the quarter window.
Gonna order fault code reader as well as I need to find out the reason for abs fault lamp being lit. MOT in November so need that sorting, rear pads, a couple of tyres, and an outer cv boot. Get the blighter running first though.
Gonna book the crane for next w.end so hopefully, by sunday evening (cant do it saturday as its the first day of the season obviously!) I will have an update for a running car again, yay!!!  :lipsrsealed:

Nice... bay and engine are looking very tidy indeed.

Love the detail with the red clips.

Was gonna put the lump back in tomorrow as today was the first day of the season, but after an hour we were getting dicked by Ipswich, and the crane was already here so decided to crack on. Now in but no pics yet. Was an absolute bar stewerd to line up and get in, so took a bit longer than planned too. Belts all on and wiring all hooked up, need to get the driveshafts on in the morning, then coolant in, and then scan for fault codes. After that its prey that everything I've done, I've done properly, and wiring is all correct. Last thing I need now is for the ECU to go bang, or a rod to come through the block cos the timing is way off! Fingers crossed anyway, and I'll get some pics tomorrow too!

She lives!

Had to lift the engine again as the driveshafts were stuck underneath, so this morning was spent righting yesterdays impatient efforts. All in now, scanned for faults (abs light is now off as well ) oil and coolant in, then started up. Took about 5 seconds of cranking, then fired so I was well pleased! Sounded tappity and was wheezing a bit, so loosened off the cambelt and all was well. sh!t loads of blue smoke to begin with, so got a little worried, but took it for a good run and all is well now. Not sure of the difference the lightened flywheel makes, as I've been driving a 1.2 corsa for the last 2 months so it feels lightning quick!  No worries when going over 5k rpm either so timing is all good!. No photos as at the mother in laws atm  , but will update when I get back. No photos at stages of the rebuild either as I forgot, sorry!

Coming back from the mother in laws it was vibrating a little whilst rolling, and had a constant creaking sound. Think I may need to re-tighten the driveshafts as I did them up with the car in the air, so they started moving as soon as a bit of tension went on them.  :embarassed:

Anyway, here are some photos, a bit of a summary of events as well

Before

Old lump out

Bay before

Bay after

And the finished article

Gotta touch up a few bits in the bay, but all good and happy!
