How much for head gasket replacement 1.8t

Hi all.

My bros head gasket has gone on his 1.8T,  All the water is now in the block.

How much does this normaly cost, i have read some people just buy a new block?

thing is why has it gone.. warped head ?? head and possibly the block may need a skim which isn't cheap.. £150-200 for someone to skim the head.. might be cheaper for a new head and then just replace the headgasket.. there was a reconned head available a couple of weeks back for a competitive price

i think it went because he was using orange juice for coolant  ( He was on the motorway and the coolant got low and all he had was pure orange juice, so he used that and never drained it out)
i think it is warped as it was not cooled correctly.


How much would the labour be for a job like this?

I would guess at £350 inc labour

even piss would be better than orange juice.. was a costly repair for him !

yea i know,  but if he drained it as soon as he got home it would of been fine.   he lelft it for 3 months and the coolant was full of thick gue

yea it did make me laff when he told me.    His engine not mine lol what ever floats his boat

if you strip it yourself, hunt around for a good back street engineering place to skim it, might get it under 100, gasket will prob be about 30-50 quid.

are you sure its the gasket? had it into a garage?
