Where can i get a replacement key fob...
« on: 06 February 2011, 12:22 »
Apart from VW as they want £182. What other options do i have or where else can i go to get a replacement?

Was thinking of buying a used key fob and then reprogram it and getting a key cut and doing it that way?
thanks

The trouble with buying one off of E-bay is there are so many revisions and versions they don't always cose to the car. I did this when I had my Mk4 and to be honest it was cheaper in the long run to get it from the dealers.

go through your yellow pages and look for a local auto electrician and ring for a few quotes, most mobile sparkies are capble of getting you a working key and be a lot cheaper than vw, but you prob will just end up with a normal looking key and not the cool vw flip design

Agreed, don't cock about with getting blades cut, trying to reprogram immob chips etc.
I got a 2nd hand remote fob (that I was 110% sure was the right one before I bought it) and got a brand new front half with a new blade cut from VW.  They programmed it all in for me too.  Just over £100 all in as I recall....
