Oil Light Flashing Upon Startup - Then Stops...

Hi people, I know there are other threads here about oil light flashing but my car doesn't show the same symptoms - since yesterday my oil light comes on at start up and flashes - if i turn the engine off then start her up again the light disapears....  spoooky!

Having checked the oil levels which appear fine although the oil is slightly dark - maybe there's some contamination? any ideas or answers will be gratefully received

My missus (the main driver at the moment of the mk3) has told me that my mk3 has done this a few times, but whenever i go to start it, it starts first time, weird or co-incidence??

I read (cant remember where) that the oil light flashing is a sign of a general engine fault; it stays illuminated as a warning for low oil.

It may just be an anomaly but it logs the fault on the ecu. The ecu records fault codes to it's memory so that they can be recalled when you plug in a diagnostic computer.

It may be something and nothing but i'd think about taking it into a garage to get it checked out. A diagnostic check cost me ?30 at a vw specialist (not main dealer).
