Hard to start when hot
« on: 03 February 2011, 16:35 »
Hi all,

Couldnt find an answer in the search section. Got a 1991 8v GTi. Starts fine from cold but takes ages to start when engine is warm. It did this on both the old and new engine.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Jon

Leaking injector/injectors?
Could be flooding the engine if they weep or drip..

the above sounds unlikely to me it happens on a lot of cars and tends to be start motors wearing out..  not saying the injectors cant leak..

Ok thanks guys. Not a huge problem, just seems to take a while to fire when hot. A little dab of the throttle usually helps it?

Mine done it all the time! used to get out at petrol stations and whack my starter with my wheel wrench! was a bit embarrassing!

Tech- it depends what he means by hard 2 start!! Slow turning starter when hot-yeah fair enuff prob the starter, but if it spins at the same speed but won't start then I'd say its the injectors/fuelling issues..

Yep, mine was the same at the same time as my idle issues started. Would start turn of the key when cold and once warm if I stopped at the shops and went to start it again it was cranking just fine but took ages to start again, when it did cough a bit I had to coax it into life with dabs of throttle. Revs would usually hunt up to about 1500 - 2000rpm when it got running again aswell until being revved or driven through first gear.

Replacing the blue temp sensor for a genuine VAG item did seem to cure the hot start problem, but not the idle issue
