starter motor stalls. (i think)
« on: 02 February 2011, 17:01 »
ok since my car cut out last week and had to get recovery truck home i have put new coil on and all seems ok.
but if the car is left over night or for the day when i go to start it when i first turn the key it clicks and its almost as if the starter motor starts then stops a few times then it turns over fine.

its not just a click i feel the donk as it tries to turn the engine but the engine dont turn but then it does and all is ok.

any ideas?

I had the same problem, not the noise though, just the lazy starter motor.

Stuck a new one on ,well used, and it sorted it out.

Sounds like a sticking solenoid. Starter may just pack up soon.

dead easy, 3 bolts hold starter to the car :)

put a jack under the engine, undo the top bolt/nut holding the bracket to the front engien mount. jack engine till it lifts off the mount, then undo all the nuts & bolts holding the starter and wiring to to the car, then swap it over :)

disconnect battery neg cable first! - starter is always live...!

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.
