should a new temp sender come with a new rubber ring?

as I fitted one on my gfs car yesterday and didn't realize there was no rubber ring on it and all the coolant came out. luckily noticed before the engine warmed up.

In the end i used the old rubber ring from the old unit.

still though waste of a whole bottle of coolant and could of damaged the engine if we didn't realize.

P.S I assume this wouldn't of effected the engine as it didn't get hot?

for now its probably a mixture of 35% g12 and 65% water

They are listed separately but most dealers do supply both at the same time as its like 20p for the o-ring!

Sounds like your local parts department are a bunch if idiots  :sad:

yeah thanks for that ryhso. I know! I might send a email to VW customer service with a complaint! spent about over a hour last time trying to get it in properly and then realising its missing a part!  :rolleyes:

Definitely worth kicking up a fuss  :smiley:  If nothing you might get the cost of your coolant back  :undecided:

i had to ask for the o ring when i purchased mine, and the plastic clip.

Is that what il need to change??? No matter how much I bang my foot down my car won't get up to 90 deg sits at 70 most of the time and the heaters are sh!te!!!! Sometimes it gets to 90 eventually then slowly goes back down to 70!! :-/

Toke, you need a new thermostat. They are supposed to open at 87degrees, when they get old they either open at 87 as they should but then fail to close and so the coolant gets cooler and cooler or they just open at a lower temp and the coolant never reaches temp. You just need to watch if the coolant goes over 90 then the thermostat is stuck and will likely seriously over heat and could damage the HG.

Wow :-/ well in getting the cam belt done Saturday so il ask the dude to swap that while he's on it cheers boys much appreciated.. Would that have any impact on mpg?? As the computer would think the engines not up to temp? Or am I talkin out my ring?? And it's just cuz my foots always down? :-/
