Wet under the carpet front and back;(

Evening all

Whilst taking my seats out to refit new plastic clips to the base of them to hold them in place thought I would check under the carpets for rust etc.... Floors are as new which is the good news      but..... I found this thick spongy material under the carpet (drivers side) not sure if it is  original fit from new about the size of the floor mat... It was soaking wet, dripping when hung up.... so dragged it out to dry!!!! Same material found in back footwell drivers side also wet....
Expecting to find the same on the passenger side when I lift that seat out tomorrow..... Anyone got any ideas, obviously some serious water creeping in somewhere....
Any help very welcome....

If this spongy material looks like recycled sponges with a black lining then its factory fitted sound proofing. With dampness where you've found, it's worth checking the drain holes at the bottoms of the doors are clear and that the lining behind the door cards are still intact and secure.
