Look what i've been up to...
« on: 30 January 2011, 21:38 »
Hi all, thought i'd show you lot what i've been up to for most of the day!

Girlfriends Mum has had this proper JCW Mini for a couple of weeks, absolutely fully loaded, its a beast! I wash her (and girlfriends and her Dads) car whenever i can to save them going to the local bucket and sponge petrol station jobby where very bad things happen!

Its got 4k miles on as a dealer demonstrator, and i knew it probably hadn't been looked after very well in terms of keeping it clean, so before i machine it in a couple of weeks (after i buy a DA of Waxamomo) i wanted to get a layer of protection on it. So...

Befores

I snow foamed it and left it for 5-10mins while i went round an did the wheels, soaked in Bilberry and cleaned with an EZ Brush and Envy brushes for the front. I then went round with a brush and some APC and did the door shuts and all the usual bits and bobs. I cleaned the engine with APC and some brushes

Rinsed the foam off and blitzed the arches, foamed it again with a weaker mixture and washed with 2 buckets, a microbfiber mitt and Chem Guys Maxi Suds II before rinsing off. Before i dried it i clayed it with Dodo supernatural clay and born slippy. I was amazed at how many contaminants there were for a relatively new car!!

So.. After i'd clayed it i just put 2 layers of Jetseal 109 on to seal it up. Left to cure for 20-30 mins and leaving 30mins between layers while i did the interior. Megs slide lock brush and APC then some AG Fast glass inside and out.

(Sorry about the rubbish pic, only from my phone!)

While the second layer of JS109 was curing, i coated the wheels with Swissvax Autobahn, left it for 30mins or so while i dressed all the black plastic and the tyres with AG Rubber Plus Cleaner, final wipedown with Jeffs Acrylic Glos and here we have the finished pics...

Hope you like, comments (good or constructive of course!) welcomed!

Thanks for looking!

Jon

Thanks! The acrylic gloss is ok, it does need a second buff though to remove which isn't too much of a problem! It's nearly run out though, any recommendations for a final wipedown/quick detailer product? (Zaino Z8 doesn't really fit my budget requirements although i know its well up there with the best!)

Yeah i agree, i prefer the seats and the refinement of my Golf, but this Mini is one serious drivers car, i had a blast in it a few weeks back and it just grips and grips in the twistys, and it does feel quicker than my GTI! I feel a re-map coming on!
