Mk3 GTi or Corrado?
« on: 29 January 2011, 20:19 »
So, I saw a certain person on here taking the wheels off of his Corrado to fit to his mk3 and started looking around as I realised how much I liked Corrado's.

So, while asking some friends it turns out my mate has got one that needs a bit of work.  It needs a new steering column, pedal box, and clutch servo.  It also needs some cosmetic work.  He wants £500 for it...  It's a 1.8ltr 16v.

So, my question is, do I get rid of the 16v GTi for the Corrado?  Opinions anyone???

Also, is that an obscene amount of work that needs to be done??

Sounds cheap, doesnt sound too bad for the replacement parts. eBay gives these to you on the cheap. Also depends if your doing the work yourself or have a good mate who will do for a beer or 2.

To be honest, that work is waaaaaay beyond my level of expertise.

For that price the car is dropped on good coilovers and is from a mate who I can trust not to screw me over. haha

I would take the gamble and go for the Corrado. Nice cars and you don't see many about these days. If it's in good condition then the work required will not take much to get done. I looked at a 16v Corrado last year and it was painfully slow so must have had something wrong with it but I was prepared to swap my Mark 4 for it. My opinion is to go for it Buddy.

I still like them, they almost look modern still. VR Highline are the ones to have though.

Occasionaly on my way back to work at dinner time I get followed by a Dragon Green VR6 Corrado which is pretty much standard apart from lowering and I find myself glued to the wing mirrors. They look stunning and agreed a VR is the way to go but the 16v is a good second

Ive never owned one but I have driven one and I really did like it only trouble was at the time the insurance was silly money think its to do with the body parts are really expensive.I have a real soft spot for the yellow nuget ones with the right wheels they look really nice.If your thinking of one and havent really drove one why not go and test drive one if you like it I would sell the mk3 and buy one that maybe dont need to much doing to it they are around for as little as a grand if you look around

Well, my mate actually wants a mk3, so am tempted to say to him that if he gets the work done then I'll do a straight swap.

How much slower than the 16v GTi is a 1.8 16v Corrado?
