German Mk3 goes UK...
« on: 25 February 2005, 17:38 »
Hi, I hope someone here can help me. I?ll move to Oxford within the next 6-8 weeks and want to take my Mk3 mith me. The car itself passed the german Mot (it?s called T?V here but does the same) without problems but has several modifications. My problem is, that I can?t get any Info about the rules and regulations for tuned cars in the UK. Here we have some general rules about the minimum distance to the ground and stuff like this. Is there something similar in the UK or where can I get detailed information like this? As I did all mods and maintainance for my mk2 and this mk3 myself I can tell you all details if you need any about the mods if this helps... Thanks for all answers in advance, and sorry for my "still too poor" english :)

ok, let?s try it with another question ;) If any of you would like to change anything on your car how do you find out if it?s allowed? Ask some MOT guy? Do you think if I go there (will be in Oxford in 2 week) with my german car papers and some pics any MOT guy can help me?

I have no idea to be honest mate, but if you give it some time I am sure someone may be able to help you.

I would however suggest trying asking the same question in the garage and or MK3 section of the forum.

Sorry I cant be of more help at the moment.

Paul

there arnt any rules as such,
but a few i no
ur car must b abel 2 get on the ramp for an mot, (when you need 1 ) if its to low it can fail,
but some can test the brakes ect other ways.

if you have a should cat in the zorst, its best to hav it in 4 mot, if u pass with out it,
1, ur lucky
2, ur engine is is good nick.

when you get the car insured over here you must tell them what mods you have done,

hope this helps,

paul

apart from the obvoius need to change to road rule on the headlights, i would assume it should pass if it has passed the tuv as this is generally stricter than the uk

what kind of modifications are you talking?

English police arent as rigourous as other countries when or if your stopped.

Wheels, suspension, the obvious are ok.

Insurance is the main issue normally, some dont allow modifications.
