My rant about Clifford
« on: 25 February 2005, 16:35 »
Dunno if some of you remember but i was having major issues about the battery being drained on my cab and it was thought to be alarm related.

Well to cut a long story short, the car is still at the garage because of the mechanic having flu last 2 weeks (why i didnt go to dubfreeze....) and the alarm is faulty.

Ive spoken to my local Clifford dealer. The concept 50 isnt made anymore and therefore not guaranteed anymore. Even if it was guaranteed it would cost around 150 quid to get it uninstalled, fixed and then reinstalled.

The problem or fault is probably down to the fact it has been jump started in the past possibly leading to a damaged processor. This can't be tested or diagnosed. How can clifford design alarms with this possibility in mind? Seems ridiculous.

New alarm is going to be installed. The clifford actually caused a burn out of wires into the fuse box, causing the car not to be able to get fuel to the engine. Was a b*tch to fix but they have sorted it.

My mate has exactly the same problem but his is guaranteed. Anybody else experienced this?

mine's been fine. I asked about jumping when I had my concept 600 install and they said the cliffords don't mind about it. Apart from my wireless fuel gauge cutting in while I'm driving it's been good as gold. About to wire in the headlights and boot pop very soon and may be intellistart as i can get them mega cheap through work.

unfortunately a good alarm can be let down by a bad install :(

remember though that clifford don't have installers. they sell to approved retailers who then do the installs

maybe you would be better speaking to clifford uk directly. i can't believe they sell products with a lifetime warranty that then becomes invalid as soon as they don't make the product

Clifford fitters are genarally pretty good,
i have always used a company called IK Electronics in stockton on tees, there have been around for about 10-15yrs,
i have never seen a bad job done by them, and i can get brilliant prices  as i have a Trade account with them!!!!

Clifford fitters HAVE to be thatcham approved, and have at least 5yrs experience in the trade and be VISB approved,
so in my opinion you will never find a bad clifford fitter! have you ever tryed to fit a thatcham alarm?  Wow there hard!!!!

if any1 is interestred in a clifford, i can get you a good price!

I had a clifford on my old car.. fitted by "car shop" taunton.. they're top people and I was recommended them by a bunch of people I work with.  I'd have to agree with the previous statements about it being THE FITTERS not CLIFFORD.
Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...

yep its all how the ppl fit the alarms, you can have problems with any alarm. I have had my alarms done by a company called Tel Cam in west london. top work and they have done most of my cars.

this fitter instead of using washers or spaces shoved cardboard under the solenoids to stop them rattling in the doors, he then thought it wise to shove wooden splits into the rear of the ignition plug as the clifford plugs were too small, the aftermath of which when i bought it, it burnt the steering column loom out 2 weeks later.

for ?25 a bloke down town will remove it and just give me central locking, so if anyone wants a slightly tempremental alarm.....cat 1
