Its a relatively easy job to do on a VW.
Remove the drums and make sure the face (where the shoes meet it) isnt chewed up by the shoes, should be relatively flat.
Make sure the cylinders are ok (peel back the rubber boots with a screwy and make sure fluid doesnt p1ss out!) as they will leak and wreck your new shoes!
When you buy shoes they will come in a full set (nearside and offside)
Back your handbrake cable off first from the handbrake lever end and then strip them down at the back.
(do one side at a time so if you get stuck you can look at the other side for reference)
Once fitted, lever the shoe with the adjuster pin outwards so that the pin drops a little, then see how the drum fits over the shoes.
Repeat this until the drum is a snug fit but so you can still rotate the drum and its not binding.
Once the shoes are done, tighten the handbrake lever end back up to take most of the slack from the cable and youre left with 5-7 clicks on the handbrake.
Job done!!
