Dropped door
« on: 25 January 2011, 20:28 »
Ive just bought a 1993 Golf Ryder as a second car, only 38,000miles from new with full service history but has a few problems and am hoping for a little help.

Both door's have dropped, what's the best solution? Replace pins or buy some shims for the bottom hinge also does anyone know how to remove the hinge pins?

Also will need to replace the front wing, is it best to buy OEM part or will a patent part do. How easy is it to remove the wing?

Thanks in advance!

As far as the wing goes, I would deffo get OEM. Patent parts never quite match, and you will end up with slightly bigger/smaller gaps all round which just make it look bodged. Have a look on scrap yard search sites for your colour and you may just come up trumps. Would make it look more original also as a new one would have a fresh paint job and would stand out a mile off.

Not sure about pins/shims but on both my golfs the door hinge bolts were easily accessible once the wings were removed! Hope that helps?

There's the old trick of putting a wheel nut in the bottom hinge and forcing the door in, so it bends in such way it straightens it out.

I used that method and for 2 years now, door is still well

Yes, bolt on.

New hinge pins will sort the door.

Thanks, do you know the easy or correct way to get them out?
