Logic 900 Alarm Malfunction??
« on: 24 January 2011, 13:47 »
Hi all,

I recently had a cutting out problem that was attributed to a very damaged Crank sensor. Brought a new genuine one and cut runs beautifully again.

That said, I am now having a worse cutting out problem which I think is related to the alarm/immobiliser.

Usually at slow speeds (10/30mph) the car can suddenly cut out (no spluttering or anything, just cuts out dead) losing steering and braking. The lights on the dash stay on, and the dips beams stay on. (Which I think rules out an ignition problem)

To get it to start again, I have to take out the key, arm the alarm/immobiliser wait a few seconds, then disarm, put the key in then drive on. (It can sometimes cut out again a few seconds later)

Sometimes arming and disarming doesn't work first time. I can tell when the car will start again as when I disarm it and turn the key, I can hear the distinctive sound of the fuel pump coming on.

I am getting the immobiliser removed at the weekend, but was wondering if there is any other possible reasons for this.

Also, can I get just the immobiliser part of the Logic 900 removed??

Thanks guys

Did you just spray carb cleaner in or did you actually clean it as well? I'd take a look inside and have a look if it were me, if it's anything but gleaming i'd clean it again. Otherwise have a look here for some more possiblities: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=101400.0

The guy in the garage seems pretty sure that I just spray it in. Not being a car guru myself I went along with it, even though I wanted to clean it properly. Maybe it's worth a look, thanks.

EDIT: From looking here ( http://javalins.wordpress.com/vw-golf-mk3/troubleshooting-common-fixes/ ) Relays could be a likely problem, although the problem is reasonably intermittent.
