Loom Question
« on: 22 January 2011, 15:54 »
As some of you may know, this is the dreaded weekend of swapping an AGG engine into my missus mk3 golf. I was going to swap absolutely everything but upon removing the dash i have realised now how much of a helen hunt its going to be!
What i was wondering is:

Will the AGG with the engine harness attatched to it fit the bay/dash harness of the 1.4 golf?
I know the ECU needs to be swapped but will the dash/bay harness have the correct wires in it to take the new engine loom?
Any help on this would be appreciated as it would save me around 29948889390.63 man hours in total.

Please somebody tell me its plug and play!!

Thanks, Mike

I hate to say it but  you were kinda prewarned about this conversion.

I know! I'm still not afraid of doing it but as the car needs to be back on the road relatively quickly, coupled with the fact that I've never undertaken a complete engine swap before, all is not as straightforward as perceived. I'm not the first, or the last to encounter this issue.
The conversion is still going ahead either way, I was just after a bit of advice as to whether the engine could be swapped, not for an 'I told you so'.
I'm not being funny, but my last topic got strayed away from what I was asking as well and wasn't any help either!

Cheers, mike

Fair play to you mate, don't take it wrong way as if you've got the time, space and skill then there's no reason you shouldn't go ahead with it. It's not like it isn't something that hasn't been undertaken thousands of times by others in the past either. It's just that from my understanding it's far from a quick and simple plug and play switch over.
There are plenty of very knowledgeable people on this forum that can certainty point you in the right direction when it comes to figuring out the technicalities of the loom etc. Good luck anyway and i look forward to seeing the end result.

Cheers, sorry if i was being a bit of a nob, im just sick of asking questions and getting completely useless answers lol! Too many people saying that i shouldnt do it for one reason or another.
End of the day its my project and my time, i just require a little help from somebody that knows more about the mk3 wiring than me.

Cheers, Mike

TBH now I've seen the work involved I don't really wanna lol! I'm now just wondering if the gti engine and engine loom will fit to the 1.4 dash loom. It will be far easier and back on the road quicker if it will!

Cheers, mike

It might do but I am not sure where you stand with the fuel pump etc, I would say that you would better to fit the rest of the dash loom.

Well the pump should be the same wiring in either car shouldn't it? I'll investigate more today and do some wire counting :D
