No worries.. anyways just go have a look, you'll soon see if there's a vacant connecting point that suits the length and shape of the earth strap.
Sounds like it's worked loose and come off..

Well yes if the coil isn't earthed it could well be causing the bad running and noises..
I had a bike many years ago that had an earth problem on the alternator/flywheel..i eventually found the issue but untill then it ran like crap and sounded like crap..and boiled the battery to overflow.

Mate..just go start your engine and hold the dangling earth strap against the engine/valve cover.. i wouldn't mind betting your motor will suddenly sound healthy again

Ok I couldn't resist walking round to my garage with a torch to try this out.
Started engine. Opened bonnet left it running and result the tapping started to fade and just turned into normal injector sound.
Am thinking that when my coil died earlyer and I tried starting it so many times at road side maybe I did something to injector to make them noisy but they have sorted themselfs now.
I did find where earth strap goes so put it back on. Didn't make any diferance but hay atleast its back where it should be.

Cheers for the help guys. Much appreciated.

Well the earth strap may well have caused the cutting out issue. If not it could well also be the infamous crank position sensor down by the oil filtre and front engine mount. The wires fray with age. got mine replaced and it cured my cutting out issues.

Hope it's cured anyway!

Realy can't be arssed to do crank sensor myslef as its a bast#rds job so gona get garage to change it.

Oh well..no probs..anyway i believe it connects onto the apparatus on the end of the valve cover, which you've found i think
And on that subject if you doubt the actual coil in anyway replace it..they have a habit of being a bit mysterious and packing up unexpectedly.

Bit of progress though eh..

Beg your pardon..see you've got a new coil.. top job.
