Wiring
« on: 20 January 2011, 17:47 »
Had a small fire  down where the fuse box is and partly in the engine bay, few cables have melted etc. (well not exactly a fire but you know what I mean)
Just wondering how easy it will be to rewire some of the cables, or whether it will be worth getting hold of a complete wiring loom off another golf.
I have an 1800 driver. Thanks

You'll have to have a look and see how much damage has been done. Its not all on one plug (obviously) so sections can be chopped out.. However it all passes through 2 bungs in bulkhead, so if you only need to do a couple of sections, and leave the rest, you'll have to cut the plugs off to pass the wires thru the bung. (Leave tails on the plugs to I.d the colours and to splice bk onto). If it was me, and say loads of the engine loom (going thru 1 bung) was damaged I'd prob disconnect and replace everyting going through that bung- meaning you'll need all of it from a donor. if its only 1 or 2 circuits damaged either repair or replace just them

Ah alright then, I would say there are about 6/7 wires that are f**ked. Main one being the feed to the coil rr.
Thats getting fixed at the garage tomorrow though.
Ill have to have a good look in there and see what is actually damaged, thanks
will let you know if i still have issues
