Replacement speakers
« on: 20 January 2011, 14:04 »
I want to replace the pants old speakers in my MK2. I want to keep it looking standard inside.
As far as I'm aware the sizes are 4x6" rear, 3.5" dash and 4" doors.
I'm going to be running the door and rears off an alpine amp along with a JL audio sub of a bass engine amp.

Can any of you guys suggest want and wheres the best to buy?

Don't really want to go into the £100's

Any help is good help.

Thanks

I got a super set of Alpine 5" & 6x4 for the doors and rears from Halfrauds for £30.00 a set... They sounded the best from what they had in stock, the 6x4's they dont carry in stock but can order them, but my son also bought the same speakers at a better price by using google...

Here is a link to the Halfrauds fronts.... http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_237965_langId_-1_categoryId_165707

Yes there are Better ones around...but like you I didn't wanna get into the £100's for a set of speakers...

Best sound is my exhaust so dont wanna drown it out too much!!

Cheers.

Trust me. it would take one hell of a sound system to drown out my exhaust!

Alpines are a great improvement over the standard ancient speakers

i've only got the front 3.5" and rear 6x4's and it sounds great

and only £75 for both sets from a local audio specialist  :smug:

problem is unless you put 6x9's in the rear shelf you wont get a mega fantastic sets of 6x4's because of the size and shape. i had the same problem where i didnt want to cut the parcel shelf and just replace the current setup, front wasnt and issue with tweeters in the dash replacing the crappy card ones and tidy ones in the door pockets but the rears after putting an amp on them sounded terrible, so opted for 6x9's in the end and hacked the shelf to bits!

or if your worried about attacking your mint parcel shelf then just buy a stealth shelf and tuck your standard one away somewhere safe !!!

Has anyone fitted one of those little amplified subs that supposedly fit under the seats?

I like the idea of one to help out the little speakers, but don't fancy spending £100 to try one.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

A decent after market head unit should be more than enough to power some speakers just not subs.. them amps do help though mate..

tbh any speaker update or stereo just wont cut it in a mk2.

door speakers are 5.25.

MK4 polo dash tweeters are a good upgrade on the cheap.

You need them low's in your life! I dont understand how people can drive with no lows!

Im running high end Phoenix Gold 5.25 components up front..still sounds sh!te.
Infinity 4x6's and a pioneer headunit without the fancy gizmo's.

In boot -Alpine Digital class D amp and a 10'' JL audio that kicks ass!
Although it can make your nose itch its toned right down for quality and not a headache!

A decent sound system transforms a long journey!

I'd buy components over coaxels and look into sound deadning the doors first!
