problems with CD PLayer
« on: 19 January 2011, 19:39 »
Hey guys, I've got a 97 plate Mk 3 Golf GTI and latley I've been having issues with the cd player, its a non standard player, previous owner tells me its from a Merc. Anyway, when i put the key in to start the engine I've always had to push the key up slightly, again this was an issue the previous owner told me about however recently the cd player will not come on when the ignition is on? Does anyone have any ideas? Should I look at getting a new ignition barrell sorted?

Cheers

Scott

Sounds like a dodgy remote live to me! Try running a wire from something else with an ignition only live to the remote live on the cd player and see if that works?

yeah id say key in ign live on switch or barrel is worn. if you follow the thin red/brown wire from ign switch you'll find a single pin plug, jump this pin with a 12v feed from somewhere, if stero comes on and works fine then its the switch, if not its wiring elsewhere

i posted a thread the other day with an identical problem. for now i have just spliced the red and yellow wires on the stereo to the vehicles permanent live (red and white wire) - this is just a quick fix though and runs the risk of draining the battery!!!  i will investigate further at the weekend and will let you know my findings. if you sort yours first though - let me know how you get on!!! cheers buddy!!
