Classic car insurance + modifications
« on: 17 January 2011, 22:12 »
Right oh its renewal time.

Adrian Flux now want £65 more this year, so they can get stuffed.

Does anybody know if classic car insurance policies will normally allow modifications i.e. engine/suspension changes? This is my our 2nd car and as such lives in a garage and does limited miles, so seems silly to insure it on a normal policy.

Can you guys help recommend an insurers? Not using Adrian Flux now out of principal, I've been with them for about 5 years and this is how they treat me.

Cheers guys.

I use a company called Heritage Insurance who can be found on Google. Mine has been lowered, has induction kit, different lights and steering wheel and all these are declared. They agreed my valuation with pictures so everything is covered and were half the price I was paying before. Give them a try as you can get a quote online and the price quoted is the price you pay with none of the "this pushes the premium up" crap. Can't praise these up enough Mate.

its worth giving them a call to check through the details. If you have not called them then they will have based your renewal on last years details but just updating age/ncb etc, but if any other circumstances have changed it may affect your premium.

Also as they are a broker, they will have sent you the best price offered by the company who underwrites the policy so unless you get in touch to say circumstances have changed or you have found a better price, they are not in a great position to go back to the underwriters to negotiate a better deal.

check out this other topic started on here about insurance prices, some pretty intresting stats:

Also insurance increases have been widely publicised in the press so a quick google search will show you its happening with most companies.

Hope that helps

How old is your car as Heritage can only offer classic insurance on cars 15 years old or more. Yours looks like a standard motor insurance policy. Classic is much cheaper.
