Boot wont open

Since the bad weather i havnt been able to get my boot open. i havnt been able to get the key in for ages but opened no probs with the fob. anyone got some pointers on what to look for or a probable cause

get some wd40 in there and with a bit of patience the key will push in

it happened to me and since i cleaned it out with the wd40 it hasnt blocked up since (touch wood)
