cooling fan?
« on: 27 August 2003, 20:15 »
I just feel that when pulling up outside the house after an hours worth of road rage and stop starting for at least 15 miles, is a tad harsh on engine when switching car off, is there a run down switch or sensor that can be fitted to fan to give it a cool down.

If the engine is hot enough the fan will run on after you switch it off anyway.

Leave the car running until the fan comes on a few times, then when the fan comes on next , turn the ignition off and see if the fan stays on.

disconnect the fan switch wire from the sensor on the radiator and using a bit of wire make a connection between the wire on the right and both other connection one after the other, if they run ok then thats the fan sorted and you might want to change the sensor (takes 15 mins) anything else and then start looking at fuses and wiring

The fan can also Come on after you park up and have left the car as the Heat soak effect rises the engine temperature slightly. You can fit a relay into the circuit to allow you to have a timed run on for the fan controlled by a switch on the dash but unless your sh!t hot at electrics it will be a pain to fit.

The standard wiring and thermoswitch when working correctly are all you need.
