start wire on tdi?? or any golf?

right does any1 know where their is a start wire on the golf tdi or any golf? im looking for a wire that turns to a positive 12 volt when the engine is started have tried both the ones at the back of the alternator but they where unsuccesful so help??

Back of the radio. There are 2 live wires, 1 is constant 12v to store presets etc, the other becomes live when ignition is turned to start the radio. I think they are the red and yellow cables but can't remember which one is which. Have a search about losing radio presets on google and it will tell you. Hope this helps.

thats no help as i already have an ignition live what im looking for is a 12v constant that only is their when the engine is started

where do you need it, engine bay side or dash side?

Doesn't matter either or as I can just run a wire have tried running one from the alternator but it hasn't worked

well theres the obvious one in the bay on the starter motor, its the big red/black wire
at the fusebox end you also have the red/black wire for starter from fusebox to engien loom, also from ignition switch to fusebox.  there is also a starter live at fusebox pin F/5 and X/1 (see fusebox faq in MK2 maintenance section)

i dont need the starter wire i already have the car starting fine the control box for it require a wire that goes to a 12v constant once the engine is started such as the one from the alternator but this doesnt work so need another so what youve just said doesnt help

oh i seeee! well there is only ignition live feeds, you either have one which is live with ignition AND cranking, or one which is live with ignition but NOT cranking. a fuel pump live feed might do the job if the other 2 arnt good enough, that'll obv be live when the pump primes though but only live when engine crankign and running. there is no feed which is ONLY live when engine is on. closest you can get to that is the rev counter feed from alt like you say, but its not 12v live its pulsed -ve

so to sum it up where are we saying i should take it from? or is their a way i can run the alt wire to something to change it from a pulsed ve-

you might be able to use this wire to trigger a relay?  its your call here though would a fuel pump power feed be enough? i assume neither of the ignition lives are what you're after
