I've done a little more investigation.. and it seems like at some point in its life the major engine earth has failed.. the earth on the rocker cover is burnt in places.

any ideas on where else may of been affected?..

currently these items are not working or have issues:

Front ashtray cig lighter not working (fuse is ok)

Rear boot light not working ( fuse is ok)

Reverse lights not working ( plug seems ok)

Oh and yeah, I've attempted to reset the service light after i did a oil change... and button A doesnt work.

Also when I flash the full beams with no lights on, theres a buzzing noise and the dash lights up..

Anyone have a electrical diagram of where all the earth are on the car ?? :/

If you can give me the last 8 digits of your vin I can get you a diagram.  I have access to ELSA. 

I have downloaded the basic golf wiring diagram for mine, but I want to check it's the same as yours.  Mine is a 2001 model year 1.8 T but I think the basic wiring is the same for all of them.

Sorted, I'll log in tomorrow afternoon for you and get the wiring!
Yours is a 2002 model year so it'll probably be different to mine!

Can you check that VIN.  I'm putting it into the system but isn't coming up.  Can you post it exactly as you see it on the windscreen.  Or try the one on the sticker in the boot, might be easier to read!
