Back axle fitted now a wheel spacer question.
« on: 14 January 2011, 11:12 »
Right ive just done a rear disc conversion on Potter and it's all gone well. But now as expected the wheels look a little too far in the arches ans the back axle i took off was  the widest one you can get being a mk3 non gti 4 stud.

So.I have 20mm difference which equates to 10mm per wheel.Obvious choice is spacers.Im going with wheel spacers rather than stub axle spacers as when i decide on my next wheels it will be easier to play with offsets etc.

My question is,if i get a 4x100 10mm spacer, will i need longer bolts?I wasnt going to bother with it only being 10 mm but i will if it is required.
Also wheres the best/cheapest place to get them and will they need to be hubcentric?

Cheers big ears

I would recomend longer bolts even at 10mm, but most decent spacers come with the required bolts (although t.b.h 10mm isn't much and I would say 16mm as a min is what you want)

I would wait untill you settle on wheels then you can play with the offset.

Well i will be running it on these rims for a few months while i find my impuls sillohettes.

Just out of interest BB how did you get to the figure of 16mm?As stub axle mount to stub axle mount my axle width is just 20mm shorter.
With the wheels i have now they just tucked in the arches nicely(running 17's) with just a few mm from the arch lip, when i was running my old axle.

I had 10, 16 and 25mm spacers on my golf and the 10mm were to slim for me and still looked tucked! (although the 25mm meant I had to fit narrow tryes or it had arch contact with weight in the back)

I guess it depends what offest the wheels are i guess.I have bought them 4 for that money i dont think its too bad compared to the price of others.

At leas it will be right for when it goes to be 4 wheel aligned next month as im sure if the back wheels are 10mm in compared to the fronts it will throw the settings out?

Cheers for the help boys.

Definitely hubcentric!

And longer bolts! If you go to and above 15mm then you should get studs.
