Finding a tdi decat
« on: 14 January 2011, 10:47 »
Struggling to find a 2nd hand one at the moment and i was wondering whether a 1.8T one would fit a tdi 130 but if not is there much of a difference?

Completely different fitment to the turbo

Brand new one's aren't that expensive

Milltek, THS or get a local exhaust centre to knock something up

They are when you have 3 months to save for a trip to inda

Just thought id see what the differences are.
Was tempted to chop the cat out of mine and just replace it with a section of tubing but i know the neck is still restrictive.
How much of a difference does decating a 130 really make?

Obviously got your priorities all wrong

When I had mine fitted with a Stage 1 map I found it increased the mid-range by around 10bhp and 10-15lbs ft torque.  There are some graphs on my old project page showing the difference  :nerd:

Hopefully you can see how the curve is fattened out so to speak making for a much more drivable car

Suffice to say its one of the best mods you can do in terms of value for money and performance gains :afro:

Yeah i know, £1000 in 3 months is a ball ache to say the least!
I was looking at ones on ebay but not sure what the bore is on them and whats the best bore to go for?
I remember you said go to THS as their one has a reducer with it.

Think they are all 3 inch bore  :undecided:

In terms of VFM if I was to buy again I'd go with THS as that comes with a range of adaptors to fit your standard exhaust system.  With the Milltek you have to buy a reducer from Jetex to make it fit and it was a bit of a faf

i've got the THS one now, f*cking love it!!

sounds nice with the standard back too.

only thing you need to think about it getting the old one off. mine ended up at stealers as they limited the labour to 2 hours.....took them almost 4.....
a work in progress......someday i might think i'm happy with a car....maybe

so far: 40mm Gmax lowering kit, upper and lower S3 strut braces, pipercross panel filter, Smoothed air box and 18" Audi R8 reps
