Stage 2 on R32
« on: 14 January 2011, 10:23 »
Morning all,

Following my recent thread about some emissions issues etc on my .:R, I am possibly looking at replacing my cats with a milltek hi flow, and also possibly a remap.  So I thought...hmmmmm.....add a cat back exhaust on...air filter...pretty much at Stage 2 already.

Anyone know of the gains, benefits etc of Stage 2 upgrades for the .:R?

Comments, pointers, critiscisms etc welcomed :-)

Andy

Not worth it. You will see maybe 5bhp overt stock on a stage 1 map. Stage 2 gives about 1-2 more. Without something like schrick cams you will struggle to get any power gains.

Put it up for sale and buy an Ed30 , then you can stage 2 that and see huge increase from standard 230bhp

Ha ha....knew it wouldnt be long before the Ed30 boys piped up ;-)  I thought long and hard before I bought the .:R32 and to be honest, if I could have found the spec I wanted on an Ed30 I would have got one.  But I wasn't in the position to be able to hold out, and it took me 2 months of looking anyway.  The .:R came up, at a stonking price with the exact spec I wanted so I bought that.  I have owned two of the VAG 3.2 V6 lumps now and do love them.   Sound awesome and for me, I prefer larger engines for the type of driving I do.  I adored my 07 GTi but wanted something noteably different I suppose.  And as a spirited driver & biker, bends are my friends!  So 4WD was also a selling point.  I have to be honest and say, I cannot remember the last time I got to a traffic light drag race.  So its all about the overall drive, not just straight line speed.  The predictable under then over steer of the .:R is brilliant, and allows me some room to move when pushing hard.

Even with the problems I am currently experiencing, I love my .:R, even if I wouldn't mind a little better return at the pumps ;-)

if APS did it too there's and cam upgrades along with other things which total £ks and not getting huge gains, I wouldn't bother either for the cost side.

save the cash and put it towards a decent set of rubber

I'd do the exhaust simply for the extra V6 sound

I'm with you Hurdy mate... I sooo love my V6 growl!

I reckon all in it's gonna cost me about £1200 (hi flow, cat back, filter + map) as I can get discount on some of the bits. Not massive amount but more than I would ideally want to spend. But if it frees up some horses and gives my mpg a bit of a boost (anythings an improvement on current) then I'm happy.

Worst of all though...is got told today my job might be moving which means my mileage is gonna go right back up to what I used to do so I could then have to realistically sell the .:R!!!  Someone is gonna get a right motor (lucky feckers)

If I do, may go to a new GTi or GTD. Depends on costs through work ;-) Every cloud ;-)
