Four light grill problems
« on: 21 February 2005, 14:45 »
I thought it was about time I solved my four light grill problems:

1) The grill should be secured by two screws which screw into a gromet, however one of the gromet (and  both of the screws) are missing. Where can I get new ones? and what part numbers?

2) The small lights (which Haynes identifies as foglights, but I've also seen referend to as driving lights) have a socket on the that doesn't match any available socket in my lighting loom, the grill lights have a socket that has one connector longer then the other (stepped). I can only locate two different sockets, one has three inputs (I think this is for headlight adjustment motor) and one that's like the cold start connector. Am I missing something somewhere, or do I need to chop off and replace my connectors?

Opps, ok :$ shows how long since I posted.

Mk2 16v GTi, 89 G Reg, while it has big bumpers I'm thinking it was originally a small bumper model.

Have one side screwed on with a nice sliver galvanised screw, the other cable tied. but don't like either, just trying to make it look good, but as I don't know what to ask for I can't get :(

Any help much appreciated.

the plug for your spot lights should come off the main headlight plug. I would post a pic, but I cut mine off as I run the single light type grill. it's simple enough to add the plug if it's not there already.

I always though the 3 pin plug you speak of to be the fog light one, but you may be right there.

I can draw you a picture if you want to tackle the job yourself.

Alternatively one of my headlight looms will sort you out (blatant plug)

The inner round lamps on the grill are not Fog lamps just so you know.  If you have the wee lamps in the big bumper these are fogs.  They should have little plastic mounts that twist lock into the grill, go to your local VW dealer they'll sort you out :)

As Dizzie says the spots are wired from the main lamps, there is an extra piece of loom that goes between the car plug and lamps.
