Differences between 8v GTI's
« on: 21 February 2005, 13:59 »
Hello!

How does my 1986 8v GTI compare to the later mk2 8v GTI's? are most of the components the same? I'm keeping an eye out on ebay for some spare parts for the future, but don't know if the parts will be suitable for my car.

I know that my car will have a K-Jet ignition, and later ones have digifant. (Is that right?)

What parts will be different between a k-jet and digi golf?

Thank you,

Chris.

yes the 88 onward 8v's had digipants injection. they also differ in a number of other things.

doors, the quarter light are gone and the mirrors moved to the more common place

The wipers work the other way, clearing more of the driver's side

the clocks changed to single plug and then to mk3 style with the 90 on onward cars

the washer bottle became the ball type on the 90 cars

seat styles changed, but all mk2 seats fit the same.

I'm probably wrong on somethings though

thanks for that Dizzie. You've been a great help so far!

Which injection components differ though? has anybody got a pic of a digifant engine bay that I can compare to mine? Would the air flow meter be the same for instance?

the digi actually had injectors you could change. the k-jet's where part of the sysytem. you could probably change then, but not like you can change the digi's.

if you have lots of braided hoses coming off the airbox then it's k-jet.

sorry gambit. THat's what I ment lol.
