Indicator/Side Repeater Advice

Helllooo,

Right, I have finally saved up enough dosh to insure my golf and spend a little money on her. I plan on keeping it as standard as possible but want to make a few subtle changes. The first and most simplistic being indicators and front repeaters.

Ive got a MKII 16v GTI in Red and I think I like the smoked crystal look as the smoked black camouflages into the front bumper quite well and the side repeaters don't scream out 'IM HERE' like normal clear crystal ones or the stock orange ones.

But to be honest im a total noob in the purchasing after market parts area and wanted to know -
A) What is everyone's opinions of smoked crystal lights
B) Are there any manufacturers who are well known for good quality/MKII purchases
C) Which sites/products would you recommend I look at?

Im also thinking about switching the stock headlights for some crystal (possibly smoked but perhaps not) lamps...any suggestions or thoughts there?

Each to their own.
I got crystal smoked everything on the front of mine, only thing which was weird though was the colour. Its all got a sort of purple tinge to it apart from the indicater lenses.
Have a look at big boys toys and also some of the shops on ebay.
Other thing to watch is the headlights, there pointing the wrong way so the adjusters need to be swapped round and you wont be able to see anything unless you make an uprated wiring loom and fit brighter bulbs.

I'd try and get them second hand and save yourself a few quid. Plenty of people like Thom out there (me included) who like to go for the OE look and take off aftermarket lights to put back to standard, and then sell the ones they've taken off.Have a look in the classifieds

Well equally balanced views from either side there!

I can see where the strictly OEM views come from...and I want to keep the majority of the car standard but I figured a few little changes like this wouldn't ruin the car by any means. I plan on keeping all the original parts that I take off so that I always have the option to got back to absolute OEM if I want to.

weazgti & caistor_bmx do you know which ones you ended up with? and are you happy with them? Also do you have any pictures knocking about so I could see how they look?

On a side note the boot doesn't open as easily and smoothly as id like which I presume is due to the two little hydraulic arms being old and tired. Im thinking about putting some speakers in the parcel shelf (Hidden ones in a stealth shelf for taste) which would only make the problem worse.

So here is one for you OEM fans, I want to replace the hydraulic arms with plain black stock VW ones (not nasty chrome ones) where is best for OEM parts and would MKII ones be best (if they are still producing them?) or would it be better to go for something newer with a bit more power.

.....in fact do they even make model specific parts like this or are they just a one size fits all VW's kind of thing? excuse my dimness on this.

Each to there own I say.... Not a fan of anything really that is not standard spec, but remember it's your car and you do whatever makes you happy, sounds like you've saved long enough so bloody enjoy spending it mate....
