mine is a August 1993, so one of the early ones with the wax looking rust proofing all other the place and not the sh!tty Galvernised crap with ZERO of the wax protection

The problem was the quality of the steel used. The mk3 golf wasn't the only car that suffered issues.

Yup, check out a lot of 93, 94, and 95 VAG cars and you'll be suprised.

Why do you think its ok to be so f.ucking rude?

The same reason you think its ok to back up wayne everytime someone questions his reply...He is a 35 year old man.. please stop it

and as for the engine, so your saying all engines are the same then yeah ??  come on stop it, now your posting stupid stuff just to have a go coz i didnt agree with wayne

the early mk 3 engines are very similar apart from bottom end to the mk 2. the later mk 3 8v had all them daft sensors etc which are un reliable, im not expert but their is folk on here that will say the same...

What's wrong with the 16V?

Wasn't the engines that slowed them down. Infact I'd be willing to bet a 1.8 MK2 engine would be FAR slower in a MK3.

The MK3 was a fat c*nt basically.

your a bit silly really and listen to idiots too much

mine actually basically has a mk2 engine in it (2E code)  its the mk 4 that was alot fatter lol, iv had mk 2, 3 and 4 golfs, and i didnt find the mk2 8v much different in speed to the mk 3 8v

Fair enough. Figures say the MK2 is quicker but I'll admit I've never driven an early MK3 8v or a later MK2 8v.

Where all my moneys went.

Golf MK3 1.6. Golf MK3 8v GTI.

Mechanically 4 cylinder engines are very similar since the late seventies. As i said fuel delivery has evolved considerably, which includes lots of sensors.
Why is that stupid?
I generally agree with Wayne, he does have considerable experience with VAG cars.
I simply commented because yet again you are being flippant and extremely rude.

GROW UP

Polo's were also very poor quality.
Try and find one now without any rust

and when do you ever not agree with wayne - thats my point.

what is his exp ? not been funny and i appologise if im wrong but didnt he just paint blocks at TSR, not saying he does not know stuff but what i say re these 2 engines  is correct and if you dont like that then sorry but its tough titties

and my definition of rude is not somebody having a opinion on a public forum

My 95 GTI 8v (ADY) has been more reliable than any of my Mk2's and has done 155k.
Shame its rusty as hell underneath, saying that ive seen some proper rusty Mk2's 10 years back.
Overall i think its a better than the Mk2 if a little numb.
For whatever the reason 92/93 models seem to last better on the bodywork.
Ive never had a gearbox issue either, and thats meant to be a weak point.

From what I know, galvanized steel was thinner than the steel used in mk2 and early mk3 shells. It was thinner because it had more protection, but I think that the practice of galvanization wasn't perfected until the late 90s, hence why early 90s cars (thick tough steel) and later 90s (improved galvanization) are better than mid 90s cars.

As for the engines, as far as I can see then 2E is a a PB engine with a 2l bottom end.

My 92 was mint with rust. Had none at all. 96 had one wing rusty but wasnt genuine and has been replaced with genuine.

Apparently some T4s rust but my dads old 94 was seriously solid.
