Mk3 Golf vs Mk2 Engine
« on: 09 January 2011, 21:07 »
when the mk3 golf gti came out, people moaned that it was slower than the mk2 8v.
would it be to any advantage to fit a mk2 1.8 8v gti engine into a mk3?

What's wrong with the 16V?

Wasn't the engines that slowed them down. Infact I'd be willing to bet a 1.8 MK2 engine would be FAR slower in a MK3.

The MK3 was a fat c*nt basically.

Where all my moneys went.

Golf MK3 1.6. Golf MK3 8v GTI.

Mk3 was a faster engine, slowed down by the added weight of the vehicle.

More powerful anyway.

but in the days of the mk2, nobody wanted to change to a mk3
i guess the addition of the CAT wasnt much help either

Likewise, ive also owned a variety of mk2's & mk3's and agree there wasn't that much difference between them, especially the PB engined mk2 & the AGG engined mk3 GTI's.

The mk3 ate all the pies. Then ate the pie shop and became the mk4.

Nope none at all, why would switching from a 2.0 to a 1.8 make a car quicker, loose 100kg's from the car instead.

2E was never fitted to a mk2, Corrado and Passat

Yep but it was only sold as a GTI in the uk, everywhere else itwas badged as a highline.
