mk2 1.6 driver engine

quick question guys im taking out my old 1.6 driver engine to make way for a 20vt but want to save the engine cause its a good runner. If i drain the coolant and oil will it freeze or damage the block with the cold weather or is it ok to do that? is it ok to leave the engine without oil and coolant for a while as im doing this conversion pretty much by myself? Cheers

Is the engine kept in a garage etc ?  If kept outside keep it off the ground, pref on a pallet etc, and wrap it tight in a tarp or cover.

The engine will be fine if you do both of these things, just make sure all of the openings, ports (inlet and exhaust) and breathers are blocked off with paper/tape.

Thanks Wurth its gonna be kept outside but on a pallet as you said. I will just block off all the opening etc now that I know to

if no oil and no coolant leaving outside it will sieze.. even if you block up all the holes.. water will condense inside and freeze thaw etc etc..

There will still be a film of oil over all components in the engine,if left over a long period of time(years) the oil will run down, but not enough to rust it inside.

Not true.....

I'd suggest filling the bores up completely with oil, covering all machined faces with a heavy preservative and wrapping the engine in a preserved bag.

A lot of work to keep a 1.6, but it's the only way to do it properly....

Thats not a bad idea, just buy cheap sh!t oil and fill every single channel. Would it be ok in the water chanels?
