Passat 1.8 T OR BMW 518?

i know yo lot will be biased but need a hand picking my next car

1996 N 518 ISE 101000 FBMWSH MOT OCT NO TAX

1997 P PASSAT 1.8 T FVWSH MOT APRIL NO TAX

Both roughly same price same to insure same to tax. Both have under 3 owners. Which is better bang for buck? Fuel consumption etc!

I know ive got a vw  but the passat for me is a far better more modern looking car that you can improve looks and performce wise.The 5 series BMW is a good old car but just that a good old looking car,not sure fuel wise I would say the passat better mpg.

Passat, much better bet.

BMW 518I is very flat to drive and has to work really hard.

what is the differenct between the 1.8 T 20v passat engine and the golf 1.8 T 20v engine? My dad said the bimmer was heavy and very sluggish, would have porr around town MPG due to the weight etc. The only thing swaying me to the bimmer is the extra  months MOT. But to be fair the passat has 13 stamps in the book. MOstly VW dealer but a few car care stamps too.

i own a passat 1.8t and its a good car and i used to work at a bmw garage and a 520 wasnt great so a 518 is going to be even worse. and in the 4 1/2 years ive owned the passat it has only ever failed the first test i put it through and that was a pair of flexi brake hoses and a cv boot

the old bmw engine is a bit crap and in a 5 sieries its just going to be lame, go with the turbo torques in the passat
