New winter wheels!
« on: 08 January 2011, 15:54 »
I got the wheels back from the powdercoaters today... and immediately got the tyres on the rims and fitted to the car in preparation for the next wave of snow!
They look decent enough for a set of winter wheels.  I hope the suspension will settle soon after being jacked up as it looks a tad high!

The wheels are Skoda Zenith wheels - which are originally found on an Octavia vRS I believe.  18 x 7.5 - with the perfect fitment for the Golf R.  I had them powdercoated a dark anthracite colour.
The tyres are Continental WinterContacts 830 - 225 x 40 x 18.  They have a nice big rim protection, so hopefully they'll keep the wheels safe from snowey kerbs!

I've just given the car a quick wash since the wheels were clean.  My mums neighbours must have been thinking 'What an idiot' as I rushed round the car with my mitt and bucked whilst it snowed down!!  Usual poor quality camera phone jobbies - but hey ho!  You can see snowflakes in some of them!!

I have to wait a week and get the wheel re-torqued, so I'm waiting until them before I put the caps back on the nuts.

Congratulations. You did well. Your tyres are now £232 each. You have saved a total of £120.

Mine have dropped in price to £227 from £247. I've paid £80 over the odds!

They look the business. The Anthracite is perfect. The overall effect is excellent. Love it.

Driving experience? Maybe too early for this.

They look great. I do like the colour, might have to get my winter wheels done that colour once the paint starts coming off them

Ha ha... give me a chance!  I've driven from the garage, to my mums to wash it, then home.
Thats about 12 miles!  So far the roads are still pretty clear as the snow isn't lying.  The only thing I can report so far is that there doesn't seem to be any more road noise with these tyres than the Dunlops that are on my Tallys!

They look great, remind me of the VWR wheels with a few more spokes.

I wouldn't worry about the neighbours, I'm sure mine think I'm certifiable as I'll wash the car when it needs it. Even if it happens to be around zero outside.
