Some good advice wanted.

I`m building a MK1 Golf stage rally car and trying to decide what would be my best options.
I don`t want anything turbo and below a 2.0 due to the class entered.I want to keep the fuel injection.
What i`ve considered,
1.8 bottom end with 8v or 16v head.
2.0 bottom end with 8v or 16v head.
Do i keep to K-Jet injection or fit a later MK2 Digifant injection if i keep the 8v.
Or do i go for a Mk3 2.0 8v or 16v(if these are fitable) - which would not have a cat fitted.
Wiring and mods needed to fit any of these isn`t to much of a problem.
What is a good gearbox to go for?This car will be getting some stick and i need something strong.
The rest of the car i have pretty well sorted at the moment but if i get stuck i`ll ask.
Any advice/help will be appreciated

I would use a 2l bottom end from a mk3 (Seat, passat, etc), combined with a mk2 16v head on twin 45 carbs. K-jet is sh#t and doesn't give you that potiental 45s do when you get it set up.

nothing wrong with kjet, people are getting 200bhp+ with the kjet setup on 16v's.

either a 2.0l 9a with kr 16v head or the abf 16v setup i say. i think the 9a is a little bit more reliable if your gonna tune it because the stroke length is a bit shorter than the abf, but the abf has a slightly better mid range. 8v wont be competetive really and the diesel gearboxes are the strongest i think

edit. if you use the 9a bottom end use the 9a head if you want to port it because the exhaust ports are better flowed, but as standard the kr head is better due to bigger inlet ports

I`ve gone for a KR 16v, found a cheap Mk2 to break.
Is there any advice or tips i should know to fittting this.
Would a Mk3 cable change gearbox fit/be any good.
Will the mk2 16v front brakes fit a Mk1?

use the 16v Gearbox Code 2y.

ideally you want the late 16v brakes that came on big bumper models. these have 256mm disks and bigger master cylinder as opposed to the 239mm the early spec 16v's came with

I`ve had a plan. Finding it hard to get a 9A or 6A block so,i`ve done my maths and with 82.0 or 82.5 bore pistons and the right stroke crank (92.6 i think) i can get either 1960 or 1984cc engine.
Does anyone know where i can find out what engine has what stroke crank?
I have gained an ADY engine that i hope i might be able to use for bits.

i heard talk of people using a diesel crank, but u'd need to get a bit more info on it!!

Diesel cranks do fit with work,but the stroke is larger 95.something which would take the cc higher depending on pistons.The crank i really wanted to use shouldn`t need any extra or very little work to fit.
