Why a RS Turbo & Not 1.8T in Mk1
« on: 05 January 2011, 09:36 »
Hey guys was browsing through ebay and came across this mk1, now im not sure why anyone would want to drop a RS turbo engine in it and not a 1.8T and keep it all VW? Has this been done before and what are the advantages of using this engine for the conversion, are they easier to do compared to the 1.8T conversion?

It is a nice gold though, bit worried that he didnt take a pic of the inside and the engine bay?

OOOOPPPPPSSSS just been treading on soundillusions toes

I just cant figure out why anyone would stand there and say "rite i want to turbo my mk1, mmm how should we go about it???? I know i will drop a rs turbo engine in it". The looks and stance of a mk1 but the heart of a ford.

Like what the bottom of my sig says "i would rather push a vw then drive a ford", i would be fuc*ed if i had this car and it broke down

As per my original thread, I mailed him asking for more info on the car as the add was sh*t... he came back with:

Yeah its its got turbo and chipped rs ecu management spits flames sounds good, great car are u interested in making me a bid? let me kno thanks as there is a bit of interest in this car at the moment thanks...

So I don't believe its on full running gear, just the turbo setup on the original dub engine.  But since he still wouldnt go into much detail, I wouldnt bother.

That does look like a right mess, cut and shut all over, i can see the turbo sat in the bottom right but it looks like the thing coming off it to the right looks like where the are filter should sit.
I fail to belive that that is a 3k set? Even if he had paper work to prove it he defo got taken up the ass for it

im confused by whats going on in that pic.

thats not an rst inlet manifold (suggesting mk1 turbo), but the turbo down there would suggest its a crossflow (aka rst), but mk1 engines are counterflow  :undecided:

thinking about it, rst gear on a mk1 engine would make sense as a turbo application, both being k-jet & similar displacement and all.
