Kestrel DAS-6 or Meguiar's G220?
« on: 05 January 2011, 07:09 »
Morning all,

Santa wasn't that great to me this year (maybe I was bad or something  ), so I'm going to have to buy one of these DA's out of my own pocket.

My question is, why is the Meg's DA more expensive then the Kestrel? Is there that much of a difference? Is it worth spending the extra monies on the Megs?

Opinions welcome... and any sites that might be doing good deals at the moment!

Cheers

Sav

I havent tried either of the 2 models you mention, however i do use a PORTER CABLE DA polisher. I cant fault it, it as never let me down...The only down side to it was the price at nearly £140 from the states and you need to use a 110v site transformer....BUT it is a great piece of kit

Cheers Maisy, I've done a search but i cant find anything conclusive, looks like its all down to personal experience!

I messaged Chris yesterday because they had the Megs on offer with a couple compounds but its out of stock at the mo so was wondering when they would have it again.

I get the feeling this is going to be one of those ones where I just have to take the plunge and hope for the best!

sorry but I wouldn't get meguiars again if I was paid to... mine gave up after not that many hours use... (maybe 5 or 6 cars)

If I were getting a DA then I would opt for the DAS-6 PRO - note the PRO bit on the end... it is a far superior machine to the G220 or any other DA I have used..

Just to make things even more complicated, I've been looking on detailingworld and there are a lot of pluses for the Silverline...

Hey Guy, thanks for your thoughts on the Megs... I've seen the DAS-6 pro one around, but just can't stomach spending £170 on the kits! I would need to get the compounds as well as the DA.

i think the sliverline is the bottom end of the market, never used one so dont let that influence you

i've had my das6 for over 18 months now gets used a lot i do my camper, my mk2 golf regularly, i use sonex pads have used megs pads before too i prefer the sonex myself. the compounds seem expensive but last a long time as you only use a small amount at a time.

when i got my camper a few months ago it was dull and swirly its 42 years old everybody said i spent 4 days cleaning it now it mint.  :smug:

I'm having the same dilemma, im looking at this kit as i've heard the menz polishes are excellent for hard paint like VW's:

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/das-6-pro-sonus-and-menzerna-kit/prod_677.html - It seems a lot of good stuff for the money!

However, i do have an allegiance to Waxamomo as Chris' service is spot on and as much as im sure CYC is too, i'd like to give Waxamomo my order... That sort of means it will be a G220, and Chris doesn't currently sell the menz polishes. Which of his stuff is as good as, if not better than the menz?

Thanks guys!
