WATER LEAKING
« on: 18 February 2005, 21:34 »
When I get in my car the back floor is wet and the door panel is all wet - I have taken the panel off and put new plastic on.  Think it may be the seal round the window - r these easy to take off and replace - I'm in Germany so there are loads off trashed golfs all over the place - Golf heaven I think.  Want to change my lights as well but because I'm required by law to change my headlights to German spec thinkin off just changing the bulbs until I get back to UK.  Appreciate your thoughts. Andy

hello matey

yeah the window seals are a piece of piss to do. just remove your wing mirror wind your window down and pull the surround out. fitting is reverse of removal. dead easy to do. when you pull the old one out you will see how it just pushes on to the door skin.

p.s just thought. check that your sunroof seal is ok and the drain holes arnt full of poo. some times the block and it takes ages to find that the water is coming from the sunroof gutter and down the inside of the car.

you do realise that now you have told every body on here your in germany that people will be making shopping lists of parts for you to bring back

aye up me duck!

If its a 5 door, double check the weather seal behind the door card these have to be stuck on perfectly and be completely watertight or they will leak.  The design of the door means water runs drips onto the plastic and runs down.

Get some cheap plastic sheeting, I got a big bag of the stuff you put down when you're painting a room :)

The way I do it is to cut an extra sheet to half size and stick to the lower half of the door, tucking it in at the bottom.  This means that most of the water will run straight into the doors and not pool at the bottom of the sheeting.  I stick it down with proper waterproof duck tape, not the cheapo stuff!!
