2.8 VR6 G60 SUPERCHARGED
« on: 04 January 2011, 17:21 »
whats a 2.8 VR6 G60 SUPERCHARGED engine/box, loom, ecu(with a stg 1 remap) worth?

and is it alot of work to fit it to an 8v gti? (engine is sat in a mk4 golf atm----that used to be a 18t)

normally i'd agree with the masses and say just buy a vr6, but love the idea of doin a conversion and the fact its supercharged is MINT!!!

also gettin the 312mm break carriers (of a mk4 18t) so will have upgreaded breaks.

sorry to ask again but not seen a supercharged mk3?

if its got pistons or tits, either way its gonna be expensive

Loads of VR6's are supercharged but i have never seen one charged with a G60 charger as its an old small charger. Im pretty sure that he has written G60 in the title to get more search hits. lol.

What charger does it have on it brand wise? How old is the charger? When was it last serviced? How many miles on the engine and box? OBD1 or OBD2 engine?

All good questions to be asking.

Is it a 12v or 24v VR6? The mk4 VR6 is 24v and uses a mk4 loom. The 12v is the one that came in mk3s and uses a mk3 loom. Either way there will probably be some kind of custom ECU set up since it's charged, but the rest of the wiring will depend on the kind of VR6 it is.
I'm also curious about using a G60 charger on a Vr6. It's an odd choice. Usually VR6s use Vortech chargers or sometimes Eaton or Lynsholm chargers.
In terms of worth it really depends on how good a conversion it is,the amount of work put in and prep work done beforehand. I'd strongly recommend hearing and seeing it run first.
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

G60 blower will be doing very little on a VR, G40 was deigned to work with engines up to 1.6, G60 up to 2.0, not that good a supercharger these days, needs rebuilding every few years, tech has moved on a long way so cannot see the point in using one.

If it is in a mk4 the loom will need lots of work to work in a mk3, none of the mounts will be any good, all in all sounds like a complete ball ache.

Is this on ebay???

The chap said its came out of a corrado. So its going to be a 2.9 12v VR6 engine...

If its a vortech charger that would be great, as they are rarer and saught after. They also make an awesome whinning noise at low revs for show off's like me.

Although i wouldnt turn down an eaton.

Try to find out who did and the standard of conversion, what has been done to the engine or have they just slapped the s/c on.

So someone had a Mk4 1.8t and stuck in a 2.9 12v VR and there is a chance it might have a G60 charger on?

Get loads more info on it as said above and then come back. Wiring shouldn't be too much of a pain, depends how badly the loom has been chopped to suit a Mk4. You could get a new loom and start again.

A fair bit of work either way.

Brakes sound good btw :D
