Jay,

Not sure if this helps. I bought a new DSG GTi in Sept 09 and very soon experienced similar symptoms to those you described on your test drive. Very jumpy when 1st engaged and anything but smooth in stop-start traffic. Got worse the more warmed up the car was.

After a couple of visits to the dealer, I had to have the whole DSG box replaced. They said it was due to the mechanotronic unit overheating. They said it wasn't an uncommon fault on the earlier Mk6 DSG boxes.

Not sure if that helps but might be worth a mention?

the noise the car makes when you shift is very addictive.

Do they still blip the throttle for you as you manually change gear to makes that wonderful sound??

Yes Doc and blip even louder and better with the Milltek

Don't think it would sound *quite* so good on my battleship grey tractor

VW replaced the manual clutch in my mk5 TDI 3 times under warranty.

I didn't want to take a chance with the new car, so thought I'd order DSG. Oops!

Daz the demon clutch killer

... I wondered that too. :undecided:

VW manual clutches are just made of cheese. The dealer eventually admitted it. Said he was replacing several each week.

I am hoping that the DSG clutches are better.

Had my first car for 6 years with no clutch issues. 2nd car for 6 months - rolled it through a hedge issue :embarassed: 3rd car for 8 years with no clutch issue. 4th car Mk5 TDI golf on its third clutch - 4 years. 5th car will be Golf GTD with DSG - looks like I have to keep my fingers crossed that I get a good clutch again :undecided:

Hey, cheers for all the reply's. Just had word back and they think its the Mechantronics unit just waiting for confirmation. If it is will this solve the problem? and are the new units more reliable than the early 09's?

I fear DSG will spell the end of a lot of cars in the future with the cost of repair.

Jay, it's Col again. I mentioned about my DSG box being replaced due to the over-heating mechanotronix unit. Just (hopefully) to put you mind at rest, I have had no problems whatsoever since the replacement - works lilke a dream!
