simond65 it says a lot for the mk5 that a lot of people have kept there ones 3 & 4 years +

Yep this has convinced me to keep the car I've got for a good few years (as I love it anyway) and even just go and buy a nearly new MK6 next time and not say a mk7.

I'll keep my GTI for about 6-8 years as the family runabout then give it away.
They tick all the boxes for me.

Yes still worth about £10k, I will be selling mine this year will have had it 3 years in May, may end up just buying a newer GTI or if not will probably be a diesel A3.  Undecided, by far the best car I have had and insurance etc has always been cheap as well.

Forever and ever!!!!
Seriously will never sell it, took my 17 years to own GTi - fell in love with the MK2 but just couldn't afford the insurance
Didn't like the mk3 or 4
Bought a mk5 1.4 s in 2005 loved it, finally bought my dream car 2 years later - brand new 2007 3dr completely standard black GTI
It's only done 11k, spent every night in the garage and I still get excited when I open the door and see it
Was tempted for a second with the mk6, probably will be again with the mk7 but know I'd regret it if I did
Nope it's me and the GTi forever!

TBO is probably not a bad I idea to skip a generation and go from a Mk5 to a Mk7 anyway?
