I think that you are defo going in the right direction and at least you are sorting out setting the car up first before looking into crazy engine mods. It is a good idea to maybe look into buying another set of wheels the same as your but with some road tyre and swap them around, the last thing you want is to keep paying for tyres after each track session. Remember the semi's will run their tread down a lot fast then normal tyres and as yours are a high end brand they wont be cheap to replace.
Your engine shouldnt go bang if it has been looked after, which by the sounds of it the previous owner has, just make sure that it is serviced often, when i say service i dont mean change oil, plugs and clean the air filter, try to get it up onto a ramp and check all the bushes for play, steering rack and arms, brake pipes, discs, pads etc etc. Really go to home on each service, this way you might catch something that before breaks.

Actually thinking about it have you cheack all the bushes on the car, i would advice doing it and maybe upgrading them to poly bush ones. Such a simple thing like the bushes will help it corner faster plus they will last longer too.

Aye brands hatch is litrally one road up from him, but if he plans other tracks then the track only rims/tires would be a good idea

Sensible head on here for a moment to EVERYONE,  and Matty, this is a Viewpoint from a NON fence sitter.

Are we not all  getting a BIT carried away ?

YOu have got the car to a  good starting point,  and with some fine tuning of the wiring etc post dash removal etc and a check over of the basics as per DHs post in ya trackdays post.

BUT, shouldnt we get ONE track day done and dusted before we go splashing more cash on spare wheels etc etc etc.

Why some will ask,

A few reasons,

1, its a VR6
2, its a mk3
3, never done a car track day before

So as its now at a Usable point, i would do just that, USE IT, do one track day and make sure its for you.

Again, just me thinking that way, oh well,

indeed. from my admittedly not massive track experience ( 5 trackdays and a ringtrip) and chatting to others i have come to the conclusion that theres no real point to building a full on, expensive track car. At the end of the day, you wont be spotted by redbull racing talent spotters, noones timing you, and as long as your going quick enough to have fun then its all good. A standard vr stripped will be fine for this. When you start to master it and want a bit more speed, then start looking at upgrades, or just buy a scooby and start the learning curve all over again.

And remember - don't wear a race suit unless it's got your name stitched into the back of it.

Otherwise everyone will be asking 'who's that c*nt in the race suit?'

I just took the rear seats and some trim out of my Golf before its first track outing.  Made sure it wasn't leaking any fluids and tipped up and drove on.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.
