Can any body throw any light on my problem please.
The other day I drove to my mothers in my golf gti 8V 96. It drove there perfect all except from the usual jerking that I have spent hundreds on & have learn to live with it.
On coming away from hers, I turned the key only to hear the motor just turning over & over without starting.
I lifted the bonnet & checked for a spark which I had, then on taking the end of the fuel rail of & cranking the started it was then obvious that there was no fuel being pumped through.
I changed the relay, still the same, I then convinced my self that it was the alarm immobilizer that was causing this to happen, I called the person who fitted the car & he came out.
He checked all the wires & said no the immobilizer was not fitted to the fuel pump side so that ruled that out. I showed him how it was just turning over but not firing & low & behold it started. He must of moved a wire he said behind the fuse box as he had this out to check, but which one!!!
We then dropped the fuse box again & moved all the wires about 1 by 1 yes it took ages but there was no way that the car would not start again.
It then drove home in the same manner as it has always done jerking now & again mainly in 3rd gear.
On the next morning I washed it, & cleaned it all up as I always do at weekends, then decided to put it down my neighbors drive while i cleaned my garage out.
Yes you guessed, when I went to start it it wouldn't go!!
I took out the fuse box again & what ever i did it wouldn't start, so I phoned a local auto electrician.
When he came out he went straight for the fuel pump, even what I said to him about the fuse box the day b4. He then checked the feed to this, & he said that there wasn't enuf power there for the pump to run, he then got out a very very long jump lead that he put to the + side of the battery then connected that to the pump live & it started straight away.
He then went to the fuse box, checked all the relay connections, then the relay out, still no go.
He then checked the fuses, which I had dun & he said to me I can see the problem, the fuse for the fuel pump & lamba sensor is "chard" was the term he used, he changed the fuse hey presto it started.
Now this is the bit I need help on, when i drove of ALL the jerking that I had spent bloody hundreds on had gone...
Now 4 days later the car has started to jerk again, I have changed the fuse again for a new one & yes the jerking has gone again. So what I am asking is what is making this fuse keep doing this any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks to all
