First of happy new year guys.

My vr managed to get through the cold snap without even a little grumble. Turns out it was waiting for the weather to get a bit warmer before deciding to get the hump.

Started running like crap and missing. Quick search on here and vortex and I came up with this.



See the lovely crack on the side. Half hour searching again and voila!



Worked a treat. Will see how long it lasts though.

I have a suspension query. Im  a complete idiot when it comes to suspension, have never really got involved with it so took another pic while getting the tyres done. Is this adjustable?

I would say it is, under the dish that the spring is sat in you'll find a circlip, when released the dish can be moved. The circlip locates in the 'notches' you can see on the strut.

Don't tackle doing it if you're a stranger to such things:

1. It's a bit of a pig to do.
2. Pretty sure you need spring compressors.

So it'd get a garage to do it.

yeah them shocks look like they have adjustable spring platforms (to adjust height)...

oh and vr6 coil packs are a common failure issue....When they crack they let moisture in making running problems, but your idea may work for a short while but will need replacing (I guess there no longer water proof?)

Not going to attempt the suspension issues myself. Got someone lined up to do it hopefully. Didnt want to waste his time for something that couldnt be adjusted thats all.

As for the coilpack I have discovered pages and pages of people moaning about them. What Ive done is just go keep it going until I can get a new one. Will prob keep it as a spare. Be interesting to see how long it holds up though. Ive pretty much sealed any cracks and the stuff i used is indrustial strength. dont be fooled by the araldite in the pic. That was for a completely different bodge.

Some guy in america used plastidip which basically shrink wraps a plastic case over the coilpack. Might be another alternative to going and buying a new one every so often.

Still at least it gave me the chance last night to discover a small blow in the exhaust while checking the coilpack. Fix one find one I suppose. That and a leak where half the head of the sump plug has been smashed cos the car is stupidly low for my roads.

That suspension looks a bit familiar, is it a GMax kit? If so, be careful if you want to lower the rear ride height. I very briefly had a GMax set up on my 'Valver and, despite the fact I run standard wheels and tyres, the rear spring pans rubbed on the tyres at anything lower than the third groove down.

Not sure what make it is to be honest. Had a quick look while the wheels were off today but couldnt find anything to identify it. I want to raise the car a bit anyway. Its sitting too low for the roads near me. Ive already lost half the sump plug.

Just been to the garage. Its not adjustable so i will have to live with it for a while.

On the plus side they sorted the tracking and camber for me so not a wasted visit.

Er, don't mean to be funny but I'd get a second opinion about ride height adjustment. There are grooves in your rear damper bodies and I'm guessing they're not decorative. They are to facilitate the moving of the bottom spring pan and thus adjustment of ride height.

No its fine I wondered about the grooves also. I will say they gave me some info on good and bad coilovers. Didnt try to sell me any but said they would fit if I got some myself.

The fronts dont have any grooves and have no way of adjustment that I can see.

So Im guessing lowering the groove would lower the ride height?? i only ask as its on one of the highest ones if thats what they are.
