MK1 RHD 5 Door GTI - Richard Lloyd/GTI Engineering

Thought i'd share this for those that don't venture outside their comfort zones much... as taken from my post here

Finally found my stuff on the Richard Lloyd/GTI Engineeing RHD 5 door MK1 GTI

I think it also came with the long range fuel tank that used the spare wheel well, not sure but this was an option and this car had pretty much all of them when I saw it for sale a long time back...  I believe its the same engine as mine underneath it all. RLR 8v plus pac with around 135-140 bhp.  I'd be surprised if mines still pumping out OEM horses at the moment let alone the extra it was given all those years ago..

Interestin that that package gives it the same sort of bhp as the mk2 16valves. What were the 1.8s running out the vw factory?

The original 1.8 8v produced around 110 bhp, just a tad more than the earlier 1.6

The 1.8 produced more torque but was not as rev happy as the 1.6

Richard Lloyd Racing (later known as GTI Engineering) developed packages that would give you the best of both worlds with more horses to boot. I was well impressed with mine when I first got it even though it had been converted like 20 years beforehand!

Got lots of info on this kind of stuff and could babble on all day! 

Richard Lloyd sadly died in a plane crash a couple of years ago... Another reason I am more keen to get mine back on the road.

I know, it's got me thinking! Of the distant future at least... One day I want mine to look more like this again as it did once upon a time.

PS.... IRC, when I saw this up for sale a few years ago it was going for something like 12k

Tell me about it... Well she wasn't far off it in the earlier pictures of my dub rides thread... When i bought the car the only thing that was not how it should have been was the wheels and the grille, the rest of it was how it always was.

If you're bored one day have a google of Richard Lloyd.  A fantastic race driver in his day (pictured in one of his mk1s in my sig below) had his own unit at Silverstone race circuit (GTI engineering) which was a VW approved workshop for servicing and modifications.

The gold ra wheeled one? I'm on my phone and I know what ur sig picture is. That's bad. Haha. And I will mate. I think mk1 looking original would be kwl as. Especially the engine. Just needs a rebuild and such.

Not RA wheels on that one in my sig but yeah the Akai sponsored one...  My engine still seems pretty strong considering and drove very well when I last could.  Power all the way up the rev range up to 7k ish! Once on the road i will get it looked at.. Think it could do with some attention to the cam/shims.

Those pictures are from a few years ago now.  I'm sure it was going for around 12k when I clocked it. A one off order that I believe spent most of it's time locked up, had very low miles and obviously a very rare spec which included my engine, leathers, the wheels, long distance fuel tank and even green tinted glass like the 3 door.
