Think im just going to look for a sh!tty mk3 2.0 8v or something, as i need to convert rear beam to disc aswell, fuell tank with inj pump, and all that jazz, too much to buy seperatly.

The mk3 cable change box ?

Can I convert mine to cable change ?


Or i could just turbo the 1.3 ? low boost, R5 carb, bit of head work, jobs a good un

Pretty much, just need the wiper wires from the mk2 as the mk3 ones are too short. Simplified further if you use an 020 'box to retain rod change

sorry guys i have a mk3 2.0 16v here is there a list that says exactly what i need from the car for the conversion as i dont want to forget nothing.. as i just wanna get conversion stuff out and then break the car.

I'd hang onto the whole car until you've finished the conversion mate, I was lifting bits off my donor right to the end

Thats the problem i cant buddy.. the old dear already isnt happy i have a mk4 and a mk2.. so will only have the mk3 for a couple of weeks before i get killed..

I think i will just strip what i can and then if i need little bits and bobs a long the line i will just buy them..

See what i mean lol I read a thread on club gti on 2.0 16v conversion and it didnt really say what i needed.. I know its plug and play but i dont know what i need to plug and play lool

What car are you putting it in? Retaining rod change box or converting to cable change abf one? What year is the abf?

J reg mk2 8v GTI.. dont know whats easier rod or cable ?? 1997 ABF..

Rod change is easier as you just use your existing 'box and driveshafts and the flywheel and clutch off your mk2. If you want to use the cable change you have to convert to hydraulic clutch and fit cable change shifter. I believe you can fit the mk3 pedal box with a slight (easy) modification but not sure you can use the mk3 shifter mech - b4 passat or corrado I think, but not done it myself..

The brakes on the mk3 will be 288mm and 5x100 so unless you are converting to widetrack mk3 then the hubs and brakes are no good. Definitely need to upgrade to 256mm (mk2 16v) brakes on the front I reckon, 280mm if you want to spend a few more pennies. For this you will need 16v/g60 hubs and the appropriate calipers.

Bare minimum from mk3;

Engine
Wiring loom/ecu
immobiliser box/transponder/chip/obd plug/appropriate wiring
ecu relay no. 30 (relay slot 3) and might as well lift 99 relay too for intermittant wiper mod.

whats the advantages of converting to hydraulic clutch ?? and cable change ??

can i remove the front brakes / hubs off the mk3 and fit them with the mk3 box ??
